lit field allocation process

Guidelines for Lit Field Allocation

The lit field allocation committee uses the following guidelines in establishing the practice schedule for the lit fields. Whenever possible, the committee attempts to assign practice days and times listed as a team’s first or second choice.

Age

Divisional teams (U11 +) will have priority in being assigned practice time on lit fields.

Older Divisional teams will usually be assigned a later time slot. When possible, younger teams will be placed in earlier time slots unless they have requested a later slot.

House league (U7-U10) teams will generally be encouraged to fill the available gym space. Older House league teams (U10, U9) will have priority in being assigned practice times on Lit fields if space is available after Divisional teams’ practice needs have been met.

Gender

In assigning practice field space for individual teams, the Coordinator alternates between boys’ teams and girls’ teams by age group to ensure that the process is as equitable as possible.

Space and Time

Southlands will accommodate maximum of 4 full size divisional teams per time slot

Queen Elizabeth will accommodate maximum of 2 full size divisional teams per time slot

The target for practice space and time by age group by level are: Gold (2 x 1.5 hr per week), Silver U15-U18 (1 x 1hr to 1.5 hr per wk with lower priority for 2nd practice time), Silver U13-U14 (1 x 1hr to 1.25 hr per wk), Silver B and Bronze U15-U18 (1 hr per week), Silver B and Bronze U13-U14 (1 x 1hr to 1.25 per wk), U11-U12 (1x 1hr per wk) . (see detail chart)

Coaching

First priority is to accommodate requests from volunteer non-parent coaches.

Second priority is volunteer parent who is head coach of two teams.

Third priority is volunteer parent who is assistant coach of two or more teams.

Fourth priority is shared by volunteer parent (one team) and paid coach.
