player evaluation and team formation
House League
The House League (U7 to U10) is a non-competitive program that does not involve formal player evaluations or the formation of teams tiered according to player ability. In forming teams, Age Group Coordinators try to accommodate requests for social groupings and aim to achieve balanced teams.
Divisional League
In the Divisional League, Dunbar Soccer approaches player evaluation and team formation differently for different age groups. All Divisional teams play in tiered leagues where teams are comprised of players with similar levels of commitment and skill development.
U11 boys play in tiered eight-a-side leagues. The top U11 division plays with teams from Vancouver, Burnaby, the North Shore and Richmond. Other boys’ U11 divisions play against other teams in Vancouver.
Boys U12 and older play in a league called Four District, which includes Vancouver, Richmond, Burnaby and the North Shore. U12 Boys play 8-a-side and boys U13 and up play 11-a-side. Four District is divided into Gold, Silver and Bronze level teams.
U11 girls now play in a tiered 8-a-side league and will have player evaluations prior to team formation as of the 2008/2009 season. U12 girls play in a tiered 8-a-side league run by BC Coastal Girls Soccer League (BCCGSL). Girls U13 and older play in a 11-a-side league also run by the BCCGSL.
At the end of each season and prior to team formation for the coming year, DSA organizes player evaluation sessions (tryouts) for players interested in playing at the Gold and Silver levels. Players interested in playing at the Bronze level are generally not required to attend player evaluation sessions.
The attached PDF document provides a detailed outline of the evaluation process employed by Dunbar Soccer. Players and parents are encouraged to regularly check the Dunbar Soccer web site for news about current tryouts.
