FAQ's about practice fields
When are the QE and Southlands lights operational?
The lit fields are in use from the beginning of October until the end of March. Both Queen Elizabeth and Southlands may only be used Monday to Friday. At Queen Elizabeth, the lights are used between 4:00-9:30, and at Southlands the lights are available from 5:00-9:00.
Can anyone use the lit fields?
Dunbar Soccer teams are assigned times under the lights. Coaches submit a request form to the practice field coordinator and a schedule is drawn up. Coaches should not assume that a time is available just because they notice that the field is not being used at a particular time. Many teams do not begin using their lit time until after the switch back to standard time. Please contact your coordinator if you wish to book a time on a lit field.
How do I access the lights?
The key for the lights is the same key that opens the shed at Chaldecott. If you need to arrange for a key please contact DSA’s Equipment Manager.
Can games be scheduled on the QE or Southlands lit fields?
No. Our lit fields are for practice only. The level of light is not considered adequate for game situations. Also, Dunbar Soccer has made a commitment to the neighbours that these fields will not be used for games.
What should I do if the lights won’t turn on?
Check your watch first! The lights are on a timer and may not be turned on early. If it is after 4:00 at Queen Elizabeth or after 5:00 at Southlands and the lights do not appear to be working please call your Age Group Coordinator or the Practice Field Coordinator.
Whose responsibility is it to secure and lock the Coaches’ panel?
The team that turns the lights on should secure and lock the Coaches’ panel immediately after turning the lights on. The field and the panel will be in darkness by the time the last practice of the night is over.
Who should I call if I have a question about using the lit fields?
Before you make a phone call, please reread this handout. Also consult the appropriate section in your Coaches Manual and any correspondence from your coordinator regarding the lights. If you still have a question, please call your coordinator. If there appears to be a problem with the lights, for example the lights won’t go on, the lock is missing, or the panel/kiosk appears to have been damaged, please call your coordinator immediately. Do not assume that someone else has already reported the problem.
