divisional soccer

Divisional League play is open to all boys and girls born in 1991-1998 (Grades 5-12) for the 2008/09 season. Girls and boys will both play under the umbrellas of the Vancouver Youth Soccer Associations.

U11 - Born 1998 U12 - Born 1997 U13 - Born 1996 U14 - Born 1995
U15 - Born 1994 U16 - Born 1993 U17 - Born 1992 U18 - Born 1991

At U11 and u12, boys and girls teams will play '8-aside' with other Vancouver clubs. Players will receive equal playing time and be given the opportunity to play in different positions. From U13-U19, players are 'streamed' and they can continue to play at a recreational level (Bronze) or try out for competitive (Silver & Gold) level teams. A high level of commitment is required at the Gold level.

Soccer Season & Equipment

Divisional games for boys and girls are scheduled from mid-September through to early March (with a 3-4 week Christmas break). Some teams play tournament games on holiday weekends (e.g. Thanksgiving) and teams successful in League or Provincial Cup Tournaments continue to play after March until they are disqualified. Game day for most boys is Saturday and girls play their games on Sundays. Teams usually practise once per week on outdoor fields (twice weekly for Gold) and move onto lit gravel fields (Queen Elizabeth Elementary and Southlands Elementary Schools) mid-October.

Divisional players are required to supply their own shin guards and soccer cleats (both mandatory) and black shorts (regulation shorts are available from the Club for $20). In September, Dunbar Soccer supplies each player with a pair of socks and the game jersey, which is returnable to the Team Manager at season's end.

ID Cards

All divisional players require ID cards. Here are some tips for any easy way to take the photos (thanks to Allan Russell, u17 Girls' Coordinator)

Here a couple of suggestions for taking and printing of your ID cards.

1. Take digital photos of your players and coaches/managers. Limit the
shot to head and shoulders only.
2. Download and save photos in a single file to your computer.
3. Using the software that comes with your colour printer, select the
various photos that you want to print. Choose the Photo Album printing
option, and select the file you want to print. Rotate the photos so they
will appear longer in the vertical direction. Choose the 40 prints per page
option. Select the best grade print quality.
4. Cut out the photos and glue onto the ID cards.
5. Fill in the player name and birth date, team name, Team affiliation
(DSA). If you have the player ID number from and old card, you can add this,
otherwise leave it blank and the league will fill this in.
6. Return to Val Murray for insertion of ID number (if you did not do
this in step #5), signature from League Registrar, and lamination.

Tryouts

Tryouts for positions on Silver & Gold teams for each soccer season will be held March - May. Players new to Dunbar Soccer are encouraged to register soon for tryouts. Players who register after the tryout period will be accommodated on teams as space permits. For more information on tryouts and registration for them visit, TRYOUTS.
