NEW SERIES OF COACH CERTIFICATION COURSES
The Community Coach Certificate is aimed at the coaches working with children, youth players and senior players involved in recreational and competitive community club soccer. Read the full article for details on the many courses offered.
For more information see the BCSA Coaching Education Certification Pathway
You must pre-register for the course online thru BC Soccer (see below). Also, to receive your certificate for any given course, you must attend all of the days of that given course, no exceptions. So please do not register for this if you are unable to make all of the sessions. You may need to arrange a substitute coach for your team for a game or practice if necessary.
BC Soccer is strict about attendance and can take away our ability to host these courses in-house, in the future, if we as instructors do not abide. Currently, Dunbar/Point Grey, Kerrisdale are the only Vancouver Clubs able to put on these courses on their own.
This season, Dunbar, Kerrisdale and Point Grey Soccer will be offering another of B.C. Soccer Association’s certification courses to its coaches. We will be running a Community Coach Children (CCC) focusing on U6 thru U10 and a Community Coach Youth (CCY) focusing on U11 thru U14. All the info regarding these courses can be found below. FYI, you need to have your CCY certificate to coach in the Provincial “B” Cup. You need your CCS certificate to coach in the Provincial “A” Cup.

ABOUT THE COMMUNITY COACHING CERTIFICATION PROGRAM
The Community Coach Certificate, as the name suggests, is aimed at the coaches working with children, youth players and senior players involved in recreational and competitive community club soccer. In the flow chart above one can see that the Community Coach Certificate essentially consists of three parts; Children, Youth and Senior.
There are three (3) different entry levels within the Community Coach Certification Program.
1. Coaches working primarily with players/teams in the Under 6 - Under 10 (Mini) age groups should enter at the Community Coach Children’s Course.
2. Coaches working primarily with players/teams in the Under 11 - Under 13 age groups should enter at the Community Coach Youth Course.
3. Coaches working primarily with players/teams in the Under 14 Under 18 age groups should enter at the Community Coach Senior Course.
Coaches wishing to complete the Community Coach Certificate (Children’s/Youth/Senior) may take these courses in any order that they decide to do so.
To enter the CSA B Licensing Program from the Community Coach Certification it is mandatory for the applicant coach to hold all three of the CCC, CCY, and CCS Certificates.
Below are course descriptions for the Community Coach Certification Program:
Community Coach Children’s
The Community Coach Children's course is tailored to coaches working with players in the 6 to 10 year old range. The contents of this course are based around the FUNdamentals of mini-soccer and touch on the following areas: stages of development, basic practice planning, the role of the coach, ethics, safety and liability, review of mini-soccer rules, basic skill development and ample amounts of sample practice sessions. This course meets the NCCP standards for the soccer technical and practical components.
Community Coach Youth
The Community Coach Youth course is tailored to coaches working with players in the 11 to 14 year old range. The contents of this course are based around coaching players at the recreational youth level of soccer and touch on the following areas: stages of development, conducting and planning training sessions, the role of the coach, ethics, safety and liability, team development, technical skill development and information on coaching youth players. This course meets the NCCP standards for the soccer technical and practical components.
Community Coach Senior
The Community Coach Senior course is tailored to coaches working with players in the 14 to 18 year old range. The contents of this course are geared towards coaching at a more competitive level of youth soccer and touch on the following areas: stages of development, advanced technical skill development, aspects of coaching, coaching team play (systems/tactics), set plays, coaching the goalkeeper, attacking and defending principles, fitness, physical preparation (warm-up and cool-down), first-aid, ethics, and safety and liability. This course meets the NCCP standards for the soccer technical and practical components.
DSA, KSC, and PGSC encourages its coaches to achieve B.C. Soccer Association (BCSA) coaching certifications. To coach in the Provincial “B” Cup, a coach must have completed the Community Coach Youth (CCY) course. To coach in the Provincial “A” Cup, a coach must have completed the Community Coach Senior (CCS) course.
Currently, DSA, KSC, and PGSC are the only Vancouver clubs authorized to provide BCSA courses in house. Each year, DSA, KSC, and PGSC offer BCSA certification courses for its coaches. In the fall, we usually run a Community Coach Children (CCC) course focusing on U6 to U10 and a Community Coach Youth (CCY) course focusing on U11 to U14. In early January, we usually offer a Community Coach Senior (CCS) course aimed at U14 to U18 if interest warrants.
